A wetsuit is a garment worn to provide thermal safety even as moist. It is usually fabricated from foamed neoprene, and is worn through surfers, divers, windsurfers, canoeists, and others engaged in water sports and other activities in or on water. Its cause is to provide thermal insulation and safety from abrasion, ultraviolet publicity, and stings from marine organisms. It also contributes extra buoyancy. The insulation homes of neoprene foam rely specifically on bubbles of gas enclosed in the fabric, which reduce its capability to behavior heat. The bubbles also give the wetsuit a low density, presenting buoyancy in water.

Hugh Bradner, a University of California, Berkeley physicist, invented the modern-day wetsuit in 1952. Wetsuits have become available inside the mid-1950s and evolved because the relatively fragile foamed neoprene become first sponsored, and later sandwiched, with thin sheets of more difficult material consisting of nylon or later spandex (also referred to as lycra). Improvements inside the manner joints within the wetsuit had been made by using gluing, taping and blindstitching, helped the suit to stay waterproof and decrease flushing, the substitute of water trapped among healthy and body by using bloodless water from the outdoor. Further upgrades inside the seals on the neck, wrists, ankles and zippers produced a suit referred to as a "semi-dry".
