What is the function of Nail plate ?

The purpose of the nail plate is to shield the dwelling nail bed under. The lanula is the visible a part of the matrix that resembles a 1/2 moon and should be treated with care as the cells have no longer yet completely keratinized. It is white in color and opaque. The nail folds protect the nail matrix.
