Almost all contemporary bloodless lotions have changed the plant oils with mineral oil and feature added alcohol, glycerin, and lanolin. Beginning in the 1970s, jojoba oil have become a commonplace element, used rather of spermaceti from whales. Widely offered manufacturers of bloodless cream in the United States include Pond's and Noxzema.

Over the centuries, new uses have been observed for the product: "As a rest room needful cold cream is used for softening and cooling the skin after sunburn, as a cleansing cream, to alleviate harshness of the pores and skin, and many others."

Lush sells a purifier, below the name Ultrabland, that most carefully follows the authentic recipe attributed to Galen; it makes use of plant oils in place of mineral oils as the base of the cream.
