Amethyst is a violet style of quartz. The call comes from the Koine Greek αμέθυστος amethystos from α- a-, "no longer" and μεθύσκω (Ancient Greek) methysko / μεθώ metho (Modern Greek), "intoxicate", a reference to the perception that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. Ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved ingesting vessels from it in the notion that it might prevent intoxication.
Amethyst, a semiprecious stone, is frequently utilized in earrings and is the conventional birthstone for February.
