A tote bag is a large and frequently free bag with parallel handles that emerge from the sides of its pouch. The phrase tote has an uncertain etymology, the African origin has been discredited and perhaps descends from Low German tute ("bag"), cognate with German Tüte ("bag"). Totes are regularly used as reusable shopping bags.

The archetypal tote bag is manufactured from robust material, possibly with thick leather-based at its handles or bottom; leather-based variations regularly have a pebbled floor. Common fabrics consist of canvas, jute, nylon and different smooth-care synthetics, which have emerge as commonplace, although those might also degrade with extended publicity to daylight. Many low-value totes are frequently made from recycled count number, from minimally-processed natural fibers, or from byproducts of approaches that refine natural materials.
