India in international pageants

Miss India has been participating within the Miss Universe competition given that 1952, beginning with Indrani Rehman and in the Miss World pageant considering that 1959, beginning with Fleur Ezekiel.

In the 1970s, Femina acquired the rights to ship a consultant to Miss World as properly, and commenced to send the winner to Miss Universe and the runner-as much as the Miss World contest. Later in 1991, Femina Miss India also received the rights to ship India's representatives to Miss International festival.

In 1994, following India's historic twin wins at both Miss Universe and Miss World, the custom of crowning a single winner was discontinued.
