A satchel is a bag with a strap, historically used for carrying books. The strap is often worn in order that it diagonally crosses the body, with the bag striking on the opposite hip, as opposed to placing at once down from the shoulder. The again of a satchel extends to shape a flap that folds over to cowl the top and fastens within the the front. Unlike a briefcase, a satchel is tender-sided.
