Origins of Watches

Watches developed from portable spring-driven clocks, which first regarded in 15th-century Europe. Watches were not extensively worn in wallet till the 17th century. One account shows that the phrase "watch" came from the Old English word woecce - which meant "watchman" - because metropolis watchmen used the era to maintain tune of their shifts at work. Another says that the term came from 17th-century sailors, who used the new mechanisms to time the period of their shipboard watches (responsibility shifts).
