Bikini in major beauty pageants

In 1951, the first Miss World contest, at the beginning the Festival Bikini Contest, became organized by means of Eric Morley as a mid-century advertisement for swimming gear at the Festival of Britain. The press welcomed the spectacle and noted it as Miss World, and Morley registered the call as a hallmark. When the winner Kiki HÃ¥kansson from Sweden was crowned in a bikini, nations with spiritual traditions threatened to withdraw delegates. HÃ¥kansson stays the first and last Miss World to be crowned in her bikini, a crowning that was condemned via Pope Pius XII who declared the go well with to be sinful. Bikinis were outlawed from the competition and nighttime robes added as a substitute. After the controversy, bikinis were banned from other splendor pageants round the arena as nicely.
